Don't Let the Old Man In

Last Week, the singer in my Welsh band stayed with me for a few days and we went to a local Open Mic night one evening. As well as some of our own songs, we played a song by Toby Keith called ‘Don’t Let the Old Man In’.

Apparently the song was inspired by a conversation Toby had with Clint Eastwood. While at a charity golf tournament, Keith asked the then 88-year-old Eastwood how he maintained his energy, and Eastwood replied, ‘I just don’t let the old man in’. Keith was inspired by this phrase and wrote the song, which Eastwood later featured in his 2018 film The Mule. Clint Eastwood was born in 1930, so is currently 95, so it must work

Anyway, perhaps it’s a concept that all of us, male or female, that are part of this sad club, can take on board. :heart_with_ribbon:

Take care and live your lives to the full.

Toby was a great singer and I saw him play live here in Glasgow many years ago. I never can listen to him singing this song as he knew he didn’t have long left when he released it.
