So I lost my husband and father to my children about a month ago now, saddly at the young age of 33 with no health issues, so was a complete shock/unexpected. We laid him to rest last week, but now I am feeling so numb, I can feel the heavy pain in my chest and a punching feeling in my stomach, but I just feel numb. Im finding being at home in the evenings on my own is strange, and I feel as though I cant relax tidy, its obviously because my husband isnt here with me. Does this feeling of lonliness/emptyness ease over time?. I Hate feeling like this.
I’m sorry that you’ve had to endure this loss at such a young age. My loss was sudden and unexpected, here one minute, gone the next so I understand the shock of the suddenness.
I felt just like you at the beginning and it’s such a raw painful and confusing time. 9½ months in, it is so much more manageable.
The pain subsides and the grief tends to come in waves, with longer in between the lows.
I still cry most days but it is not like the beginning by any means. It’s usually over as quick as it starts with some moments lasting longer than others.
This site has been amazing and I have made some very good friends, some I have met and speak to often. I’ve found them to be very supportive. It makes a massive difference to have people who truly understand because of you haven’t been through it, it’s hard to imagine what it’s like.
Focus on the now, take it hour by hour and don’t look to the future. Take all the support that is offered and take time to let the grief out. It does get easier and manageable but like any trauma, it doesn’t go away, you just learn to live along side it.
Thank you for your advice. I am also very jumpy with any sudden movement or creak within the house, I guess I feel vunerable because its just me and the boys, im hoping this will ease in time. Feel like my mind is playing tricks on me, especially at night!
That’s all pretty normal. I thought I was going crazy. You will feel vulnerable, your foundations have been shattered. Your life as you knew it has changed forever.
The one who you relied on to help and protect you has gone. It makes you feel very insecure. But you will find an inner strength that you didn’t know you had, as you deal with life and move forward.
You are stronger than you think.
Hi Jessica, firstly so sorry you find yourself here amongst us but welcome. I lost my partner 5 weeks ago and like you feel lost, scared and I think the jumping at noises etc is you are probably hypersensitive at the moment, lack of sleep, worry, grief it takes it’s toil. Coming here has been the most positive step I have taken so far, I had my first okay day today and even if the next week is awful then at least I know I can have okay days again and that slowly however long it takes somehow I will find a new way a new norm. I am terrified of doing this alone and am pretty young myself at 40 so seems like I have a lifetime to go, but he’d want me to keep going for me and the girls (mine are both teens 16&14) please keep posting and reach out x
I’m normally such a bubbly, confident and funny person but I’m lost since my hubby has gone. I was never nervous in the house but I’m so jumpy now. I’m even nervous walking in the street on times which isn’t me. I’m so lost without him.x
I have been the same, lost my spark in life! But it’s early days remember that x and keep chatting x
