First Anniversary Coming Up

I have been feeling anxious about the first anniversary of my Mum’s passing which is next week. I thought I had been coping ok but struggled with leaving my Mum in 2025 while I moved on into 2026. Then this time last year we received the unexpected news she was being put on end of life care before she passed away 2 weeks later. So many feelings are flooding back to me and I am feeling very anxious and emotional. My doctor suggested grief counselling might help but I feel I have got this far without it so not sure if it will help. I would feel more comfortable on an online chat kind of counselling than face to face. Is anything like this available. I thought this community may help in a similar way.

Hello @rlg2706,

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum.

Whether it has been one, five or ten years since the person you’re grieving for died, coping with a death anniversary can bring about new feelings each year. You might find our support page on coping with anniversaries helpful to read.

I hope you find the community to be a support to you. You might also find AtALoss helpful. If you visit their website, you can chat to a bereavement counsellor online.

Take care and keep reaching out,
Seaneen

I’ve had 2 lots of bereavement counselling with different organisations. One was by telephone call and the other was via zoom meetings. I found both helpful. There are quite long waiting times to get these. xx
