Going back to work

I’m due to go back on the 8th June, which will be almost 5 weeks since my husband passed, my boss has been amazing and given me plenty of paid leave and asked if I need more time I can have it, I work in a busy cafe and I’m so nervous to go back, especially dealing with rude customers, and the sympathy stares because people don’t know what to say, I’m unsure if it’s too soon, but also it may be a good thing to back and start to feel a bit more normal with some routine for myself…

How long did everyone wait to go back to work after their loss?

Hello.

I went back to work on half days about 5 weeks after I lost my husband. I was really nervous but needed more routine to my day. Most people were great. Others couldn’t believe I was back at work so soon. You can only do what feels right for you - no-one else!

Good luck lovely, and just take each day as it comes xxx

Hi. I’m just going back on reduced hours next week, I’ve been off just over 4 months. I wasn’t in any fit state to return before now to be honest. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Take care. LJ. :people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging:

Hello, I don’t think there’s a perfect time to go back to work, I went back after a month, i needed structure/routine & to take my mind off of things & get out of the house, I also thought the longer I leave it the harder it’s going to be, it was a bit like ripping a plaster off, the first day was hard, but the next day a lot easier.

Dear Chianti

I’m retired but I did read a post here yesterday from one of our lovely group who’s returning to work. She’s doing it gradually. Two hours a day a few days a week to start and gradually build it up. That sounds like a good plan to me x

I had two weeks off & thought that work was the answer. I made myself very physically, mentally & emotionally worse so now I am signed off work. Nothing helps :woman_shrugging:

Thank you everyone for your help, I am concerned I’m not doing the right thing but I’ve got to try right?

Hi Chanti, if you are not sure one way or another and you say your boss has been very helpful. Maybe you could try for a couple of hours a day to see how you adapt it going back and then make a decision. I don’t know if that’s possible.
Wishing you all the best
Tom
