Evening everyone, not sure where to start, last June 2025 my parents fit and healthy enjoyed a holiday in Tenerife we was a bit worried about my mums memory as kept struggling with things putting words together. Came home from holiday not feeling well dad was worried I went to see them but n there return as live very close mum kept saying she didn’t feel good but couldn’t explain why. Me and dad took her to doctors and there did a memories which mum failed while there dad mentioned she had a cough which had been there weeks ?? Chest infection so antibiotics, it got worse and mum got poorer so back to gp they said they though puemonia so went straight to A and E. Sat unwell in reception from 3pm till 10.30 till she collapsed after fainting episode which scared my dad and he had a pain fare I. His side I thought he was having a heart attack got my on a bed waiting to transfer on a corridor to EMU. It was 2300 hrs so then we had to leave mum to go home I stayed with dad he was upset.the next morning we went back to see mum she started on fluids and OAB doctors did a lot of tests and we was waiting for Xray results to which they was suspicious of malignancy?? Which we was in shock they did a MRI scan to which we found out mum had stage 4 lung cancer which had spread to lymph nodes and liver, they took us in a room and told us that they couldn’t do anything and mum had only 3 months to live we was absolutely devastated I felt my heart break my dad was in a mess as his love of his life was dying this was 4 June 2025. We then had to go back to mum and pretend that there was nothing wrong I couldn’t look at her as I kept crying was truly awful. Eventually mum came home after a week having some fluid drained of her lung so brave. Me and my brother moved there bed downstairs as struggling to get up stairs. We looked after her all by ourselves I had nursing experience as worked in NHS for 25 years. 3 days after mum came home .my dad took ill I got a phone call he was screaming in pain from the sharp pain he got in a and e when mum became unwell I phoned 999 went back to hospital with dad my brother stayed with mum as had to stay with dad he was in a week also and 5 days after mum’s diagnosis my dad also was diagnosed with liver cancer 13 June 2025. My mother in law was in hospital with COPD been ill 2 years and passed away on 12 June 2025. So as you can see it been awful. On the 1 st September my mum sadly passed away in ashgate hospice her funeral was on the 4 th October 2025 we was devastated and heartbroken dad had started chemotherapy for the cancer as they said his diagnosis was up to 1 year so after loosing mum we was worrying that dad was very poorly so we’ve looked after both parents all alone with no help. Last Christmas 2025 dad s chemotherapy hadn’t done anything so stopped treatment and his cancer progressed rapidly he had fluid on stomach needed to go in for drainage but didn’t come home as ended up on a pallative care unit and only lasted 1 week and sadly lost dad on 10 th January 2026 so 12 weeks apart from mum. Just had dads funeral on 4 th February I’m struggling massively in my own emotions I’m on work .
