Losing both parents

Hi,

I’m new to the group, I had counselling when I lost my mum through Marie Curie but I felt I needed to speak with people that understood. My mum died 13th July 2022 and then a short 18 months later my dad died suddenly on 1st November 2023. It still doesn’t feel real, I knew dad wouldn’t last long without mum but nothing prepared me for this loss

Hello @Lizziet ,

I’m part of the Online Community team and I can see that you are new to the community - I’d like to thank you for bravely starting this thread and sharing how you are feeling. I’m so sorry to hear about your parents and their loss so close together. Most community members have sadly experienced the death of a loved one and so will understand some of what you are going through.

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support, but I wanted to share a few Sue Ryder resources with you that might be helpful.

I really hope you find the community helpful and a good source of support and I also hope you feel you can access more support should you need it.

Thank you again for sharing – please keep reaching out and know that you are not alone.

Take care,

Alex

Hi @Lizziet. I came to this group yesterday after losing my partner a month ago. I lost a dear friend 6 months ago and my grandad a year ago. I honestly just feel so much pain, but just reading that others understand is a comfort. My partner died unexpectedly and was everything to me and our daughter. Ive been dealing with all those horrid things you have to deal with, but the thought of everything else is overwhelming. But a lot of people here have said “one small step at a time” so thats what im going to do. Even before my grief i believed in sharing how you feel, as it helps. So please continue to come here and share your feelings, i have already found out that there are 100s of people here with their strength, bravery and understanding to help you xxxx
