I know the loneliness too of missing him with me.I’m finding it a struggle every day without my husband. There was life before he passed and now this.i feel overwhelmed but so glad I found this group because it helps to talk with people who truly understand what we are going through. I want to look at photos of him, read cards etc but when I see his beautiful face or read his words I am in floods of tears with longing for him.

Hello I lost my Husband of 53 years 3 years ago to a very traumatic stay in hospital and unexpected passing. I totally understand that you are struggling so much there are days that I feel my loss so deeply and I still cry most days however when I am out people think I am fine and have ā€˜moved on’ awful phrase in my experience you do not do that you do not show your pain when put and about and in my case that happens when I am home alone although waves do hit me when I am out but I practice my breathing and put ā€˜my face’ back on. I thoroughly recommend a Bereavement Counsellor that you relate to I am still seeing mine 3 years on she totally understands how I feel and I can let all out to her if you can see someone that is great but also this site is where you can say how you feel because we all relate to that . Sorry to ramble on but I hope my experience shows you that you are not alone take care be kind to yourself. Sending you a virtual hug. xx

Thank you so much for your reply and I am so sorry for your loss also. The smallest thing can start me crying and I still feel sometimes that I’m going to wake up from a dreadful nightmare and all will be as it was, but really I know that’s not going to happen and it’s difficult to accept. Thank you again, hugs and take care of yourself.

I have just read your message. I am having a bad day. I have only just joined and relate to your story. We would have been married 60 years this year. I always try to be cheerful for my friends. Thank you so much it has helped me reading your story. To not feel so alone.

The best way grief was described to me was that at first it is like being on a desert island with storms raging permanently around you and waves drowning you. One day there might be a glimmer of calmer weather and then gradually those glimmers become longer periods of time. However, storms do come back and knock you off balance or sudden tornados flood in and floor you. For me, just over a year into my grief, I am not in a calm, storm free space but there are days when the waters are calm and I have a measure of peace. Sending a big virtual hug your way.

LisD. Thank you so much for your message. it means a lot. It certainly resounds with me. I admit to floundering at the moment. It is good to be able to connect to others. A big virtual hug to you as well

Patricia, we all flounder believe me and sometimes it is the most ridiculous things that set you off. We all hibernate too at times and it is scary to step off the stormy island into the sea and interact with other people. Still now, I find it a challenge but I know I owe it to Phil not to retreat into myself. Someone once said to me, ā€œYou don’t want your partner’s legacy to be that he didn’t give you the strength to live without him.ā€ Another thing I hold in my head when I am venturing out into situations that I find hard, is fake it til you make it. It’s a cliche because it’s true…time is the only true healer. Take care. It will become easier I promise.
