Losing my mother

I lost my beautiful mother at 5am this Sunday. I was laid next to her in the hospital for the best part of 2wks.

Admittedly, it was her time. She kept saying she wanted breakfast with the angels. My mum was a devout Christian . I read the Bible to her every day. Played her favourite music, and talked and talked to her constantly. They were giving her high amounts of fentanyl, as she was in pain. Gradually she became less and less responsive

I cannot begin to start to explain what a wonderful woman, friend, Grandmother she was. I am so privileged to have had a mother like her. She taught me many things. But mainly unconditional love, and forgiveness. I could go on and on. I feel as though my stomach has been wrenched out,.and also my heart is broken.

I lost my partner 2yrs ago as well.

Dear Michelle

You have been through so much, I am so sorry for your loss. You must be exhausted after spending so much time at the hospital. I sat with my dad for three days and know how difficult that was. Dad I lost 2 years ago Christmas and my wonderful husband just over a year ago.

I am glad your mum had her faith to help her through her passing, I hope it helps you too. Our parents are our heroes and we never stop missing them. The way I’m trying to think now is, how lucky we were to have them. My whole life I’ve been loved. Wonderful parents then the love of an amazing husband. I know it’s no comfort to you now but I hope in time the good memories will replace the pain.

This is an amazing group. Without all the people here I don’t know how I would have got through the last year. When I first joined I searched old posts, there are some very kind knowledgeable people posting offering great advice. Talking does help and I hope you have friends and family that are there for you. If not post here, join a conversation. When times are tough there will always be someone here to listen x

Dear Michelle

My heart goes out to you. Even though you and she felt ‘it was her time’ it still feels unbearable. Like you, I was lying next to my mother, for a long time. I treasure the fact that I could be there with her and she knew I was there. I know she didn’t want to live any longer and I know life would have meant more suffering for her. This it doesn’t change the huge huge pain you are feeling. You must also be physically and mentally exhausted although you may not be able to recognise that yet, as it is so soon. I didn’t feel that at first. Everything was so intense and me and Mum were in a bubble together for a long time. I heard someone once say it is a bubble of love and that sounded right.
Your mother sounds wonderful and will have given you a lot strength to sustain you, but that doesn’t stop the heartbreak. All the best and take care.
