Panic attacks

Hi everyone just curious if anybody else experiences panic attacks after a loss.
I lost my grandad last year in may.
For the following months I dealt with it well. Self medicated with booze and coke and thought I was fine.
Then in September I had a sudden panic attack. My first ever one.
Since then I’ve not been able to leave the house without having severe panic attacks. Really bad anxiety. Or passing out.
Honestly just hoping for answers and if anybody else has experienced this.

Hello @OllieB2326, I’m so sorry for the loss of your grandad. I’m just giving your thread a gentle, “bump” - hopefully someone will have some experiences to share.

You might find Mind’s information on panic attacks helpful. It walks you through what can cause panic attacks, how to cope and what kind of treatments there are.

It sounds like your panic attacks are having a really big impact on your life right now. I would really encourage you to make an appointment with your GP to see how they can support you.

Please do keep reaching out too - you are not alone.

I haven’t experienced this personally @OllieB2326 , but I have a close friend who did following a bereavement.
Similar to you - though without the booze and coke - she tried to manage this herself.
In the end, she sought help via her GP and that was the start of her being able to manage her grief and function day to day.
You don’t say if you are still using booze and coke as a coping strategy but if you are, it is not a healthy coping strategy and it will, without doubt, knacker your mental health in the long term, so, as advised by Seaneen, get an appointment with your GP to access some professional help.
Your Grandad would want you to be well.
Good luck.

Sorry guys was asleep all day.
To answer a few questions I’m off the coke and the drink is occasionally if I’m having a chill night on the couch and fancy a cheeky Bev.
I am currently in weekly therapy to help with the going out and such. Had my second session today.
I make it to the appointments and through them without attacks but I’m always on the verge. But it’s the only time I’ve been out since my first serious panic attack so I think it’s just about getting out more.
Thank you all for your support and thanks to those who also shared stories of their past.
My heart goes out to you all.
God bless you all and I hope you all have a brilliant Friday :pray:t2::heart:.
