My husband died a month ago, I’ve told most people like the bank etc but not the people we have our mortgage with. I don’t need a new product I just need to tell them so they take his name off mortgage. However I am worried that they will do a reassessment. Since taking out the mortgage I now have a child and work part time. I can keep up with repayments but I’m worried the bank will think I can’t. Anybody experienced similar? I’m with brittania.
Hi beckywecky02
I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. It can be hard figuring out all the practical steps after our loved one has died.
You would be best seeking independent legal advice, as a lot will depend on if your husband left a Will. You can also speak with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for guidance and support. They have some advice on this on this page at Dealing with the financial affairs of someone who has died - Citizens Advice
Take good care, Rhi
Hi, sorry for you loss. I would seek advice and have a good look through all your paperwork. It can depend on what type of mortgage, joint and what type of joint mortgage you had. Like everything, nothing’s straightforward.
You are better talking to them . It’s more likely that you just take his name off the the deeds a solicitor completed that for me . The citizens advise is a good call x
Hi
My mortgage company didn’t do a reassessment
They actually sent me a lovely letter saying there was no rush. I rang them & just told them I would continue to make the monthly payments and when I sell the house, I will pay the mortgage off.
They were fine with that😊
