Ok, so I was watching that scene in Star Wars, the first movie in 1977, when Luke Skywalker and his friend R2D2 are with the goodies, ready to attack the evil Death Star. Luke’s call sign is Red 5 (stay with me, there is a point to this!). When Luke and R2 line up to make the attack, they report in “Red 5, Standing By”.
This is how I have felt so much over the past few years. My husband’s diagnosis, me, standing by, his suffering, the end of life conversation, me standing by, the hospice, the end, the same.
Spoiler alert, in that Star Wars film, Luke and R2D2 blow up the baddies, the Death Star, and when they do, the voice of Luke’s mentor and friend, Obi Wan Kenobi, says “Remember, the Force will be with you, always”. For me, just now, right now, that was Tom’s voice, reassuring me, that he will be with me, always, his presence and his voice as always, consistent and calm.
Those we love will be with us. Hold tight everyone x
