Hi, I’m just several weeks into this journey. My partner of 20 years lost a short battle with cancer, age 59.
For whatever reason, a song by Leo Sayer (I had to search for the singer, I haven’t heard it for years) came into my head: ‘When I need love.’
The words actually reminded me that the love is still with us,
‘When I need love
I hold out my hands and I touch love
I never knew there was so much love
Keeping me warm night and day’
I closed my eyes and embraced all the love that is still within me from my partner.
There is also love out there, from family, friends, our God or religious groups, and community groups. Open our hearts and we’ll find it and peace. It’s also within us.
I’m not naive, I don’t see siblings much, a long story, and don’t have any close friends. I need to learn to trust again.
I played the song in full and it wasn’t upsetting, it provided comfort that all that love hasn’t just disappeared. It will make us stronger.
