Struggling

I lost my mum on the 6th December, she was diagnosed with bowel cancer 28th January 2023. She done amazing up to up to 14th September ( my birthday) she ended up in hospital, she got home start of November, turned 86 on the 23rd and them just got worse after that. I know it’s best for her but I’m struggling. I was with her 24/7 right to the end . Im going back to work next week and that worries me .

Hello @Tg31 ,

I can see that you’re new to the community, so I wanted to say that I am so sorry for the loss of your mum that brings you here.

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support, but I wanted to share a few Sue Ryder resources with you that may help right now.

Thank you again for sharing – please keep reaching out and know that you are not alone.

Take care,

Alex

Hi

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum.

I can’t offer much support I’m afraid. But I just wanted to pop in and say you’re not alone. I lost mine a couple of days ago.

May I ask what worries you about going back to work? You don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to.

Personally I really want to go back to work, I know that when I lost my cats and my dad a few years ago (yes, all in the same year!), working was the only thing that really kept me grounded. I think the routine helped.

Sorry for your loss

The thought of everyone asking me if I’m
Ok , not just work friends but Customers too .

If you don’t feel strong enough to face work, can you not get more sick leave ? if you not ready, then you should not be rushing back to work.

I feel my boss thinks I have had enough time off

Ooft, yeah that’s the toughest part isn’t it? One wants to say no, but etiquette says otherwise.

Does your boss think you’ve had enough time off, or is this your feelings? Have you spoken to your boss about it?
