My husband died suddenly 3 weeks ago. I found him dead in our bed and ran to neighbours house. Phoned my son and he and the neighbour did CPR until Paramedics arrived. They confirmed he had died . Then the police came and then the funeral director came, and they took him away. I feel I ve been kicked in the head. Cant function. Dreading the funeral.
Hello Jimjams, so sorry for the loss of your husband, that must have been very traumatic for you, so sorry you went through that. And yes it feels like your whole life has been shattered and you’re trying to gather the pieces, .my husband passed away in March after 35 years of marriage, and I still can’t believe im not going to see him again, not talk to him, nothing
. Was your husband ill.?..my husband had been sick for awhile, but it still broke us when he passed away, we couldn’t believe it
..i hope posting here helps you, where we understand what you’re going through, it has helped me a lot. I pray for you and your family, to help you through this heartache
may God bless you ![]()
Hi @jimjams
I am sorry sorry for your loss and the way it happened
My husband died suddenly as well. We were on holiday in Scotland at the time . The lady who owned the cottage we were staying in son did cpr on my husband. The paramedics ,police were also involved. My husband had to have a postmortem.
I had flashbacks backs for a while.
The shock you are feeling is terrible. take it one day at a time. Eat , sleep, drink when you can . If you haven’t already done so go and see your gp .
Have you got family and friends to support you
Think of you and sending you hugs

Oh JimJams I feel really sorry for you.
My husband died suddenly 4 months ago and my whole world crumbled that day. Please look after yourself, try to drink lots of water, ask your GP for something to help you sleep or something for the anxiety in the mornings. The first few weeks were horrible, but please know that slowly you will start having moments of calm and peace and that though the pain will still be there it will not always be as horrible as what you are going through right now. Take it one day at a time, some times just “this morning” “this afternoon” at a time. Sending you a big hug!
I’m so sorry for your loss, my partner died suddenly nine months ago. I still get flashbacks but not as much as before. You are probably in a state of shock, numbness and disbelief. I think that protects you initially as your whole life has changed in an instant.
You will get through the funeral however painful the day is. You said you have a son, I hope you have support from other family and good friends too. It is very difficult to think straight as there will be so much going on in your head. Poor memory and brain fog is common. I couldn’t even remember conversations I had with people.
Take care and if you feel able post on here again. We have all experienced great loss even if we are at different stages on our grief journeys. Look after yourself, try to eat. If sleep is difficult perhaps your GP could help.
Hello Jimjams, i am so sorry what happened to your dear husband. It sounds so similar to how i lost my dear wife ,a year in february just gone. She passed away here at home in our living room.I had to get a lady next door to help me.I rang 999 and they said could anyone help me as i had to get her on the floor to try CPR.the ambulance came, they did all they could but sadly she had already gone.It was all so sudden and unexpected. Then the police came and then the undertakers. It hapened on a sunday, i dread sundays as it always brings back these awful memories.I do hope you are ok.These initial days are so hard.I had no family to help only a kind neighbour, afterwards my work bosses were very good.I do hope you have some help and support.I have found this site so helpful, supportive and a great help.Everyone is so kind and understanding as we all know what we are all going through. The initial stages my head was all over the place, i was in complete turmoil but with the kindness of everyone on this site i have somehow made it this far but its so hard.My dear wife was here one minute gone the next. Please look after yourself.
Take care.
I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this too. I lost my husband suddenly nearly three months ago and it’s torture. We’re only in our mid thirties and have two young children and I just can’t get my head around it.
Harry’s funeral was very tough but also very uplifting with how many people showed up and the funny stories and photos shared on the day.

Hi April, am so sorry for your loss! You are right, losing your husband suddently is torture. I hope you are getting a few more moments of peace and calm as time passes. When I lost my husband suddenly 4 months ago the pain was unbearable and constant for the first couple of months. Wishing you all the best
Thank you for your kind reply
My sweet son has carried me through the last 3 weeks. He’s amazing. Thanks for replying
He had not been ill and was always reluctant to see his gp about anything . Thanks for replying
Thank you x
Thank you for replying. I have physical symptoms like nausea/vomiting that don’t seem to be about the food I’m eating it just happens randomly.
Hi @jimjams
I glad your son has been there for you and given you the support you need.
My son is the same with me very supportive.
My husband was the same he wouldn’t go to the doctor for anything. When the paramedics were attending my husband. They kept asking me what medication my husband was on . They asked me several times. I think they thought because I was in shock. I wasn’t thinking straight.
I hope you have a peaceful afternoon

Hi @jimjams
I was also physically sick , my gp told me it is caused by the shock of what has happened.
Hello April, i do hope you are ok?I am sorry its been so hard for you.I have found it was the complete shock and unexpectedness of losing my dear wife that has torn me apart. You are so right it is torture. You are so young for this to have happened to you and your dear children too.Its trying to comprehend and understand what has happened that i find so difficult and i keep asking the question WHY?.Its always the kindest, caring most loving people taken from us.I am so glad you got through the funeral ok it can be a really daunting day.I am so pleased you got support from all the people that came and sharing funny stories and photos.Your husband sounded a lovely man.Over a year on for myself and i still find things very hard.I work, a very busy full on job, the human interaction helps but i find my mind is not there like it was, it sums up my life now, everything has changed and nothing will ever be as it was.we have to try and hold on to memories of happy times but i find even this brings tears. Its coming back to the empty sad lonely house that really hits me, it always will.I have found this site a Godsend to me.Everyone is so kind and understanding. Our circumstances may be different but we all find ourselves walking the same path many of us at different stages of our grief.I find talking helps be it online on this excellent forum, on the phone or in person physically. There is always someone on here to help us and give us advice too.I do hope things will get better for you and become more bearable. One thing i have learnt is grief has no timeline or direction, it can hit us anytime, anywhere and is such a rollercoaster of emotions too
Please look after yourself.
Sending love too
.Take care
