Drinking

Don’t beat yourself up about a couple of drinks . It does take the edge off and helps me sleep . We won’t be like this forever

I pray we won’t be like this forever. Groundhog Day in hell. I think I might succumb to a drink tonight. It’s been biscuits through the day. Must stop eating rubbish. It only makes me feel worse. Didn’t sleep well. Then carer turned up 1.5 hours late. Very rare occurrence. Now I can’t stop crying. I miss my darling husband so much.

I’ve really tried to cut back on the drinking, well not doing a bottle of wine every night!! Hopefully I’ll be popping out later with a friend for a couple of drinks which helps me sleep. But I just remember how we used to spend Friday evenings, usually going to the local and then having something easy like a pizza for dinner. Things have changed so very much and people seem to be less friendly about things, never mind I suppose it’s something we have to get used to. Everyone just seems to be so busy these days, well I’m sure they won’t be when I have the summer gathering in a couple of weeks to celebrate Keef’s life as there’ll be much free food and drink!!

I haven’t really hit the bottle. A bottle of wine will last me a week and I haven’t had any this week. I can understand how it can help many people. My go to is food. Must stop eating junk. Xx. Sandra

Hello @Dublingirl,

I just wanted to pop onto this thread to share this with you - grief can be so painful to cope with, but if you’re worried about your drinking, there is support out there.

  • The NHS website has a guide on getting support with alcohol issues.
  • Alcohol Change offer support to people who are experiencing issues with alcohol.
  • Drinkline is a free, confidential helpline for people who are concerned about their drinking, or someone else’s. Call 0300 123 1110 (weekdays 9am–8pm, weekends 11am–4pm)

The Samaritans are also always there, day or night, on 116 123.

I hope these resources can help, and for anyone else reading who may be worried about their drinking, please do reach out for support.
