Solo holidays 2025

My husband passed away a year ago last week. We always talked about going to India it was somewhere he wanted to go. Next year I will be 70 so decided put on my big girl pants and go. I’m only in the planning stage at the moment so not sure what company I will use. Very excited but sad he won’t be with me. It will be my first solo adventure.

@Ann56 I’ve thought about India, I recently watched the one episode of the programme with Jane McDonald in where she did a cruise to India. They visited the Taj Mahal and it looked so magical. I only lost my wonderful husband at the end of December so the thought of going anywhere in my own terrifies me and I know it will make me so sad because he should be there with me. I’m hoping that one day I can pluck up the courage. I’m only 57 so as hard as it will be, I would like to think at some point I can go on some more adventures.

I used shearings last year to go to Bavaria, I’m using leger this year. They also pick up at locations and then all get on the coach to destination later in the day.

I looked at Newmarket holidays for India for next year. They do a solo holidays and that looks good. You fly to india then a coach picks everyone up and stays with you for the rest of the holiday. Price wise they look pretty good. A lady I work with has used them for her holidays previously.

My husband passed away when I was 60 im now 20 months into this journey. It’s hard to ever think you will do anything exciting on your own but you will do things and make your own memories x

@Punto thank you it’s always reassuring to talk to people who are a little further on this journey and hear that life (albeit a very different one to what we really want) can go on x

@AlliH I went to India with Kuoni alone, years ago. It was a tour so I was with the same group of people for 10 days, then had 3 days in Delhi on my own.
I found that flying there by myself was exciting, and because you are alone you can chat to anyone without worrying whether your companion is being neglected. People will speak to you.
It’s great to wake up whenever you are ready, and do whatever you feel like doing.
I think it would be difficult to do that kind of holiday by yourself, negotiating trains, buses, accommodation, etc, and also risky as a single woman, but as a group tour it will be fine.
Go for it. He will be with you.

Thank you @SadGirlfriend that sounds fantastic. I know it will be a while before I am ready, but as soon as I am I will, and it’s so encouraging and lifting to know others have, and enjoyed it so thank you. This whole experience has taught me that we really do have one life and it’s there to be lived before it’s too late. Right now the sadness of going without him feels too overwhelming but I’m determined to get to a place where I can feel like I can take him with me in my heart x

@Punto thank you. I’ve looked at the Distant Journeys one, they do some amazing solo trips, the one to India looks fantastic.

Ive looked at that and the Newmarket holiday one, they all seem very similar.

Thanks I’ll look at them. It’s all a bit daunting but I have a word of the year and it’s “DETERMINED”. So I will get it booked and go next year.

Trcentrly I’ve been thinking if a solo coach holiday but that’s as far as it gets I really wanna do this it’s a way that I dong have to drive and see new places and people in similar situation
Mind you single supplement is a lot x

@Pickle1 the single supplement is sometimes a killer. I tend to scour the holidays to find ones with out it.

I booked leger solo holiday as no supplement on the solo ones.
If you look up solo holidays then most dont have supplements.

Thank you for the suggestions new to all this so will investigate thank you

I hope everyone is well and managing to cope with this life we never expected to be dealing with.

I am due to go on my solo holiday with leger coaches on 3rd May and was wondering if anyone else has already travelled alone this year or has made new plans to go on holiday.

It would be good to hear how you managed and the places you visited, maybe it will give others the encouragement and realisation that we can do new things if we just take that step into the unknown.

Hi,
I have done 2 solo coach holidays with Leger and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. It was so nice to be looked after from start to finish. Last year I went to Italy for 8 days, visiting Rome, Pompeii and Sorrento. They were places I had always wanted to visit, but had never got around to, and having enjoyed the Italian visit I am off for a longer one with Leger in August. I also did the solo Christmas markets ones last December and am doing it again this year.
I found the coach staff really helpful and the other passengers, on the whole, were a really friendly bunch. I can’t recommend them more. I’ve also booked another trip next year!! Gail

Im doing the christmas one as well. I’ve looked at next year, but I’m not sure which I fancy doing. I want to go away again in September but may just book a flight and hotel near tje tome.

I did my first solo trip in December and whilst apprehensive I found it enjoyable and was quite happy with my own company. I am now looking forward to a second coach holiday in June when I will be going to the Isle of Wight, somewhere I have always wanted to go but never got around to before I hope you can relax and enjoy your trip
