When Stan and I broadcast on our Community Radio Station, this song was requested a lot.

Michael Schulte You said you would grow old with me

I’d like to say, “I’m okay”, but I’m not
I try, but I fall, close my mind, turn it off
But I can’t be sober, I cannot sleep
You’ve got your peace now, but what about me?

Thought we had the time, had our lives
Now you’ll never get older, older
Didn’t say goodbye, now I’m frozen in time
Getting colder, colder

One last word
One last moment
To ask you why
You left me here behind
You said you’d grow old with me

We had plans, we had visions, now I can’t see ahead
We were one, we were golden, forever, you said
But I can’t be sober, I cannot sleep
You’ve got your peace now, but what about me?

Thought we had the time, had our lives
Now you’ll never get older, older
Didn’t say goodbye, now I’m frozen in time
Getting colder, colder

One last word
One…

Thank you, @RichardM, I felt every one of those words, but this phrase pretty much sums it up for me

Richard I’d never heard that one before but it will become a favourite now I think.

Here’s one I’ve been listening to the past weeks

@FleurDeLis
Thank you for posting the Bruno Mars song.
There is another version of the Michael Schulte song without the orchestration, just a piano backing his singing. I think I prefer that striped back version, it is on the album Dreamer. If you have a music streaming service you should be able to find it, I would be interested in which version you prefer

This song/video has been posted here before. It is my go-to video when I am having a bad day. It never fails to make me smile.

Thanks everyone for keeping this thread going. Music has played an enormous part in my grieving and still does. It can make me cry, it can make me smile - both are important. xx

Thank you for starting this topic, it’s nice to see both @Crazy_Kate and @Stargazer revisit their thread.
There are now so many lovely songs burried within it’s pages, it is well worth digging a few of the highlights out and letting us newer users see them for the first time. I am not sure I have heard Play That Song before, so thank you for highlighting it

@RichardM regarding the Michael Schulte song just listened to both versions now and the piano one is better in my opinion, it goes better with the lyrics and feels more haunting/lonely. Both good though.

Not the original versions and probably not the best covers versions, but we happily and loudly sang along to a Tracey Ullman cassette in my first car. These two songs bring back many happy memories

I’ve linked to a Barclay James Harvest song before (reply 1012 in December)

I thought it time for another one. This one is Taking Me Higher which is from the same album as Poor Man’s Moody Blues

The lyrics will make it obvious why this song has been chosen

Used to be a dreamer
But you know I’ve found
A better way, you

Thought I was a loser
But you proved me wrong

You’re taking me so much higher
You’re taking me so much higher

Higher and higher

You’re taking me so much higher
You’re taking me so much higher

You’re taking me so much higher
You’re taking me so much higher

We used to listen to this a lot, my choice but René particularly enjoyed singing the end parts to me and we’d laugh “cr cr cryyyy…”
