5 years this March

My mother suddenly passed away without warning, one minute she was celebrating a win on the horses and the next she was lying in A&E in Preston and gone!
My mother was an extraordinary person, she brought myself and my two brothers up single handedly as my father passed away on an operating table for a heart condition when I was 3yrs old . this was in 1967 .
So my mum has always been there for us and luckily I had a good relationship with her.
So my mum, travelled around Europe in the 1950s working with horses spending quite a bit of time in France where over time she became fluent in french.
She was a well loved person by her friends and family and always had an interesting story to tell of her exploits in Europe before meeting my dad.
A keen gardener and a really lovely person would help anybody, so going back to her sudden death I was at work at the time in the evening and when I was contacted to get over to the hospital asap i was quite far away in travelling there and unfortunately she passed away before I could get to her .
It’s nearly 5 yrs since mum has passed over to be reunited with my dad and in this time I well I have this big gap this empty void of nothing… My life has become so empty, so mundane and it’s not getting any better.
Mum was my rock, my everything , I’m only grateful that she didn’t suffer as I know she didn’t.
There you go… thank you for reading.

Hello @Napoleonsolo,

I can see that you’re new to the community, so I wanted to say that I am so sorry for the loss of your mother that brings you here.

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support, but I wanted to share a few Sue Ryder resources with you that may help right now.

Thank you again for sharing – please keep reaching out and know that you are not alone.

Take care,

Alex

Im sorry for your loss - i lost my dad unexpectedly over 20 years ago - i just had a phone call after work to say he’d had a heart attack and he’d gone - he was only 64. And now im facing the loss of my beautiful mum 12 weeks ago after spending the last year caring for her full time. So i understand when you talk about a void - i look to the future and feel very scared about how you continue living with such a gaping hole. Anniversaries are often a time we stop and take stock of our lives. I know nothing will replace the hole left by your mum, but can you see other things in your life that you could change to make things feel less mundane? Maybe this is the time to stop and think where do you want to be in another 5 years from now? It sounds like your mum had some adventures during her travels - I think our mums would want us to build our own lives and find our own adventures, whether thats travelling the globe or on your own doorstep it doesnt matter. Do you have the opportunity/resources to travel - could you visit some of the countries your mum visited as a tribute to her? Or is there something else she wanted to do but never got the chance that you could complete in her memory? I dont know what my adventure is yet, but im going to have to look for work soon and ive decided i want to move into some sort of role that helps others. Then whilst i dont particularly value my own life right now, at least i can help someone else to have a better life. Take care of yourself

My mum died 9 weeks ago. My dad died on Friday. I’m broken and have come to this site for support.
