Hi how long should you wait for hospice to be in touch after oncologist referral?

Hi Sue,

I’m sorry to hear that you are waiting for a referral - that can be such a worrying time.

Cancer Research UK has this information page on waiting times: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancers-in-general/cancer-questions/waiting-times-for-tests-and-treatment-after-cancer-diagnosis

It says the following:

"- No more than 2 months wait between the date the hospital receives an urgent GP referral for suspected cancer and starting treatment

  • Starting treatment no more than 31 days after the meeting at which you and your doctor agree the treatment plan."

If you have been waiting longer than that, you could try calling the hospital and speaking to the oncologist’s secretary.
