Hello to everyone, from the depths of another long Saturday afternoon,
So this week, the movers from the auction house tipped up, to take away Tom’s big antiques and biggest paintings, and his wine collection, for auction. I was dreading it. Two men and a van arrived. We went around with the list, putting stickers on everything that was going. It felt weird. Then, they started carrying things out to the van. The first thing out of the door was an enormous portrait of a man, from the 17th century, dressed in ermine, as an Earl. This painting was a source of amusement and fun for Tom and me. He had it way before I arrived and it had been my background for all my many zoom and team calls since 2020. As he was carried out, I had to look the other way - but, as more and more things, big, dark, heavy things were loaded into the van, the house, and me, felt lighter. I immediately knew I was doing the right thing and now there is a sense of calm and optimism here, as if willing on the next stage. I also handled another tricky situation well, on the same day. My friends, I headed out to the town and actually went into SpaceNK - something I have not had courage to do before. I went to the perfumes, tried on one that I have admired for years and I BOUGHT IT! For me. The lighter house, and my lighter soul, is now fragranced with this beautiful scent. I miss Tom so much, but know I can do this - nearly 20 months on. Keep going where you are today, keep swimming, it will be ok x
Hi @Vancouver
Well done buying perfume! I completely understand what an achievement that is. You’ve been an inspiration in how you are managing this journey. X❤️X
@Stillhiswife - thank you, thank you - for all your support, encouragement and inspiration along the way. It is a long road we walk, but to go together, with friends on here, makes it easier, lighter, ok. Thank you xx
@Vancouver well done for getting through some difficult situations. Thank you for such a positive post and giving all of us earlier in this journey, hope for the future.
Well done.starting to sort sues clothes out .the lady who did sues service is a pastor and I decided to give them to doreen for the charity her church run in Africa.so this way sues memory is going to help someone less fortunate
@Martyn2 - I know how hard this can be. Today, Tom’s ancient glass decanters will be going. It’s sad because no-one uses them anymore and I don’t have space for them. Sue’s clothes will be much loved by women in Africa, my friend and I am sure she is very proud of you for sharing them in this way. x
Well another milestone. Took a book to my neighbour with my rollator. We all seem to like the same books so it is a bit like a library. Sat in the sun chatting with their dachshund at our feet. Two other neighbours came back whilst we were sitting there. It’s amazing what a difference a bit of sun can do. Need to find a better way of getting my rollator indoors. Think I need to pull not push. Next outing Sunday for vaccinations.
@Pudding - this is great news - well done you, this is a big step forward. Keep doing what you are doing and thank you for such an encouraging post. A win for one of us is a win for all! x
@Vancouver . This was a trial run as the neighbour is doing a coffee morning on the 3rd November for MacMillan which I know she wants me to go to. Looks like I will be able to manage at least for a while. The next aim is to get to my local community centre where they have a get together to play board games and chess and have lunch. I find it helps to set myself goals but not timeframes.
Hey @Martyn2 - this is great - thank you for sharing this. You look really smart and your tie matches your friend’s gorgeous hair, too. This is a big step, my friend, and you did it! Thank you for showing us there is hope after the losses we have suffered. Love finds the way, holds us close and takes us all forward, another step, towards those we miss so much. Have a lovely weekend, my friend x
@Pudding
I am so pleased to hear that you got out. You are right, being in the sun and talking to people does make a big difference.
I hope you can manage to get out again and you are able to go to your neighbours coffee morning and enjoy the company.
Good luck with your vaccinations. I have Covid tomorrow and the Flu next Saturday. xxx
Vancouver thankyou. Been invited out tomorrow evening to a local bikers pub to see one of our favourite bands called dufflegoat to raise money for lindsey lodge hospice scunthorpe where my gorgeous beautiful fantastic wife sue spent her final days here
