Hi just looking for some advice please. It’s 16 months since my husband passed suddenly and unexpectedly after almost 49 years of being happily married. I have been on a low dose of Sertraline (anti depressants) during this time. However, I’ve been struggling with depression and not being able to see any future for myself. Recently I’ve been quite poorly with a chest infection which has worsened my depression and I just can’t see any future for myself. I am wondering whether to increase the dose of Sertraline to help me cope better, has anyone else found these anti depressants to be beneficial with helping with grieving please. I will also speak to my Doctor too.
Hi @Maisie7,
Thank you for your post and it’s good to hear that you are speaking to your doctor about this too. Giving medical advice can be quite dangerous without knowing someone’s medical history, so contacting your GP, Doctor or NHS 111 is the best course of action.
Remember you should always talk to a healthcare professional before acting on anything you read online that could impact your or someone else’s health.
There’s a lot of questionable health advice out there on the internet. We’ll always respect your opinion, but we will remove any posts or links that relate to information we deem unsafe. We have a responsibility to look after everyone who uses our community and take this very seriously.
Take good care,
Naoise
Please see a doctor. I’m with you struggling to see a future for yourself without your loved one. Make sure your getting some sort of counselling aswell as medication . Im currently on antidepressants as i was before my husband death a small dose. But talking therapyis helping the most . I could even recommend raki or a lovely smoothing massage. Be kind to yourself

I agree with Lyn, but make sure you are clear with your GP, he can probably access a wide range of “Talking” therapies. I went that way, and quite soon stopped the antidepressants altogether, which I’d be taking for years. But we are all different. Try not to " scattergun", trying everything at the same time. Have a structured plan.
Good luck
