Any need for a support group for 40-60 year olds

Hello, I am new to this forum. When my partner died 5 months ago, I went to a grief support group (midweek, term time) but was surrounded by very sweet but elderly people. It was more of a church-based coffee morning where more general discussions took place.

I was thinking of setting up a support group aimed at 40-60 year olds which is more focused on talking about loved ones who have died. I was considering booking a library / church room for 90 minute sessions. The aim would not be to provide advice / therapy but merely to listen. The sessions would be in the evenings or at weekends.

Do you think this would get any traction?

Hello Ja3759, that sounds like a good idea, I like the age range as well, im 58..but having a counselor or therapist present would be more beneficial. Good luck,..and so sorry for your loss. God bless you

Hi, I’m 54, I’m navigating the loss of my husband of nearly 30yrs. Todays a very tough day and I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this and support my children.

Hello Nick54, so sorry for the loss of your husband, I lost my husband in March..how old are your children?? I have 2 adult children and 2 grandkids, if it wasn’t for them keeping me busy I don’t how id be,..i think keeping busy helps..being distracted, if not the mind starts to wander where it shouldn’t..i hope you have some support at home. It most certainly helps.take care and God bless you and your family. :folded_hands:

Hi, it is such a difficult time. Especially, as the one I want to talk to about all this has gone. Everyone keeps saying i’m really strong but all i’m doing is keeping moving. I really just want to lie in bed all day sometimes.

That’s what we have to do. Keep moving. The gaps between the crushing waves of grief will get wider.

I think this is a great idea, I’ve just turned 56 and lost my husband last October to pancreatic cancer. There’s a definite need for a group for people of our age and younger.

Best of luck with it and do let us know how you get on.
