Has anyone lost a child to suicide who was affected by autism and mental health issues?
Hi Falkie,
I noticed you haven’t had any responses to your question just yet, so I wanted to point you in the direction of a couple of threads that may be helpful to have a look at:
https://support.sueryder.org/community/losing-child/lost-my-daughter-23-suicide
https://support.sueryder.org/community/losing-child/loosing-my-son-through-suicide
https://support.sueryder.org/community/losing-child/hole-my-heart
There are others in this community who have lost a child to suicide who will understand what you’re going through - you’re not alone here.
There’s also an organisation called SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide) and they have a forum (https://uksobs.org/), where you might find someone who has experienced a similar loss.
If there’s anything we can do to support you, please do let me know.
Take care,
Eleanor
Hi Falkie. I lost my daughter to suicide 2 years ago. She was 35 and had suffered mental health problems for some time. She killed herself 3 weeks before her aspergers/autism assessment. I’m happy to chat anytime. Kathy x
Dear Falkirk,
My darling daughter died a year ago and she took her own life. She was 42 and was suffering from mental health problems. We knew that she was prone to depression and anxiety and was receiving treatment.
I find myself racked with guilt. ‘If I had done this’ or ‘if I had said that’. Gems was fiercely independent and it was not easy to help her. I wish I could turn the clock back and begin again with her. I love and miss her so much.
Take care xxx
Hello Victoria.
Thanks very much for replying. I understand the guilt you feel. I feel so much guilt - over the last two years before Adrian died we had fallen out, and things get said and done that are so regrettable now.
He lived with me and his mother until September 2017, when he became so ill he needed to be Sectioned. He recovered, but fell ill again in February 2018 and ended up Sectioned again in June 2018. He was a voluntary patient on the mental health wartd when, on November 12th 2018 he took a taxi from the hospital to Southerndown beach, where he threw himself off a cliff.
We are devastated, and I cannot come to terms with losing him this way. Our hearts are broken, and will never mend. It is just a year ago for you? You must still be grieving so much.
My heart goes out to you. XXX
PS: Falkirk? interesting… I am 1 thirthy-second Scots… “Falkie” is shortened from “Falkvinger” (Swedish), which means “Falcon’s Wing”.
