Bankers! Or is that Bonkers?

When my husband died he owed a reasonable amount on his credit card. I had had cancelled a few holidays where he had paid deposits with his credit card and I was advised that the deposits would be put back on the card. Of course, I could no longer access his credit card as it was cancelled. When I closed his ISA with the same bank they sent the funds to my current account as requested. But that balance did not match what I knew was invested. To cut a long story short, the bank had deducted the credit card bill from his ISA. That’s fine, but I was not informed of this. As I have not received a closing statement from the credit card, I requested this in order that I can check all deposits have been returned from the holiday companies.
Bearing in mind that I hold an account with the same bank, and they already had a death certificate, and Grant of Probate, I was amazed to hear they now require a photocopy of my driving licence!
I will not be surprised if they require a blood test and fingerprints by return.
Like I haven’t got enough to do.

That sounds dreadful; so sorry you’ve got all that to cope with.

Hi @Willow112
:woman_facepalming:t2: BANKERS! (One letter out,) It sounds like they’ve mucked up & playing for time to fix it, all I can say is, be persistent, you shouldn’t have to go through all this at such an upsetting time, shame on them. I hope it all works out :crossed_fingers:t2:. Sending hugs of support.

They haven’t told you they can’t return it to that credit card as it is closed? Precisely why I left Norman’s card open for quite a while.

I don’t know if the deposits have been returned until I get the statements and closing balance. And I had no choice about when the credit card account was closed, it happened as soon as the bank received the death certificate, which was necessary as I had to get Probate.
It is a whirlpool of frustration and work.

So sorry.

It is frustrating, understatement I know.

When I had problems with the bank, the stand in manager tried to contact the bereavement department only to discover that it had been closed down.

I hope this is all sorted out very very quickly xx

Our credit cards weren’t with our bank so I could keep it open. Our finances were obviously a lot more straightforward than yours. 2 banks. 2 ISAs not with the banks. Of course the credit card company won’t tell you as you were not the card holder. It’s stupid to the extreme.
