I lost my husband aged 61 due to a tragic accident on 15th September whilst on holiday in Turkey. He went paddleboarding in the sea, got into difficulty and drowned. I witnessed the whole incident. He was taken to a local hospital where he was put on a ventilator for 8 hours but then passed away. The hospital showed no empathy or compassion, within 5 minutes of been told he had died, I was told that there was a bill to pay (even though I had given them our insurance details), a card machine was put in front of me & I had to pay 7000 euros.
I am really struggling to get the images of my husband been dragged out of the sea lifeless out of my mind and then all the attempts on the beach to try & resuscitate him. Then how I was treat at the hospital was really upsetting.
We had been together for 42 years, married for 37 years. We met when I was 16. We did everything together. I am truly heartbroken and not sure how to get through this pain. I keep thinking he is going to walk through the door
Hi Karen, I am so truly sorry for the loss of your husband, my heart truly goes out to you , what a cruel tragedy to have witnessed, and the hospital treated you so badly, shame on them..so sorry for what you’ve been through..I hope you have family and friends to offer you support, you shouldn’t be alone, its too much ..I hope you can get some counseling, to help you deal with such a traumatic experience..take care of yourself and God bless you
I have 2 sons & daughter in laws and a good group of close friends, but it’s the mornings & evenings alone in the house that I am finding very difficult.
My GP has recommended I contact CRUSE which I plan to do this week.
Hi. I am so sorry for your loss, that is truly heartbreaking. Can someone stay with you for a while. please try to eat when you can, sleep if you can, I was told you can only take it hour by hour sometimes. My thoughts are with you. LJ
Dear Karen I am sorry to hear about your poor husband and the experience you had in the hospital. It must’ve been very traumatic. You could ask here on this site for counselling they are normally much quicker to organise something than anyone else. I hope you find some comfort here there is always someone online to chat to so you are never alone.
Thinking of you and sending hugs
Wishing you all the best Tom
