Counselling

My doctor suggested I reach out to cruse for counselling as I am struggling which I did. Spoke to someone and they said to get back in touch after six weeks from the death of my husband if I still needed help. She said there was also a waiting list for counselling of about six weeks in my area. I wondered if any of you had counselling and whether you found it helpful? Thanks

I had counselling offered by the hospice that helped with N’s end of life care.
Extended to 18 weeks in total.
It was a life saver for me. A safe space to talk openly, cry without being judged, no pity looks and there were even some laughs.
The first session felt awkward, probably because i felt so vulnerable.
I hope it helps you, it’s not for everyone, but it’s worth a try

I’ve had counselling through my local hospice , when M diagnosed .
Had them throughout his illness and just after he died. Amazing is all I can say.
I paid privately for my 11ye old daughter to have counselling at the same time, again amazing.
Helped me work through so much I was struggling to cope with.
Gave me some amazing tools to help me on my journey.
I think counselling is very important in coping with grief or anything else that’s a struggle for that matter.

Thank you all for your comments. I think this is something I need to do xx

Hello Alilye,

I found out the hard way, after a lengthy wait of many months, that Cruse doesn’t offer counselling. They offer sessions with ‘bereavement volunteers’. My experience with their first ‘bereavement volunteer’ they gave me was terrible.

If you Google BACP you can find professional counsellors near you. Near me they start at £40/session.

I’ve heard that Sue Ryder (which offers professional counselling, not bereavement volunteers) are good, too.

I really hope you get the support you need :blue_heart:
