My Mum was also my best friend. She passed away 10 days ago & now I feel utterly alone. People I thought were friends deserted me in the past few months when I wasn’t available because my family was going through so much & now she’s gone it’s radio silence. Not one message of sympathy or to see if I’m okay.
Hi Mia76
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s not until it actually happens that I came to realise quite how awful it felt.
I went through much the same when my partner died. Friends and relatives remained silent and distant. As time did move on people did start to reach out and see how I was doing. This did not come from those I would expect it from. Perhaps harsh, but I’ve come to realise who my true friends are. On reflection I can see that those who have reached out have been through their own losses.
This community has been a lifeline and incredibly supportive. I know from my own experience that life feels very lonely. Know that you are not alone.
Dear Mia I am so sorry to hear your pain. My wife had a very close relationship with her mum, they would be on the phone everyday and at weekends we would always visit. When she died it took my wife a long time to come to terms with it. We eventually found a therapist who helped a lot. When my wife died her last breath was a call to her mum. I hope she is now in her arms. I hope you find some solace here where everyone understands the pain of losing a loved one. I hope you also find some support closer to home. Wishing you all the strength you will need and sending hugs
Tom
