Hi I was wondering if anyone who had lost a spouse or partner is receiving the Bereavement Support Payment? And are aware it is only for 18 months? I wondered why this was the case and apparently this was changed a few years ago by the government !! I am part of a group on Facebook called Widows Fight and we are petitioning the government to change this. If anyone else has been affected please can you sign and share our petition as much as possible? Thanks for reading
Sadly, if you were not married, you are not entitled to it, it doesn’t matter that you were together for 21 years, shared a mortgage, etc. I didn’t even get the funeral costs back because I’m not taking any benefits. It’s just so unfair, the whole system makes no sense to me. My partner of 21 years died suddenly at the age of 39, didn’t have a will, and even my probate hasn’t been granted because one of his parents is alive.
Yes I saw that and have signed. The whole thing is very unfair. I’m Irish, but I know that in Ireland, a bereaved spouse is entitled to €260 per week for the rest of their life, and if you have dependant children there is an €8k bereavement grant to help with funeral costs etc. The financial worry when you lose your spouse adds to the huge grief, and the system certainly needs changing
You are not entitled to it if you receive your state pension. That makes no sense to me
Yes same in Ireland, you can only get one state pension
Please can everyone share the petition on any social media platforms? We need 100,000 signatures x
i never got it, all i get is pension credit, cant even get state pension as i never paid in.
hubby left me in the s^&* when he died, no insurance, no money and it took 9 weeks before they sorted it out. they are quick to stop money but not to give it out
