First Christmas without you

To all those facing their first, second or third Christmas without their partner, I hope you can gain strength and support from this Sue Ryder community.

This is my first Christmas without my Billy. Who knew this time last year he would not be here today? Well, Me! I lost the best person to me in the world through undiagnosed oesophageal cancer. The sudden loss and emptiness i feel is overwhelming but i have found strength in the posts in this community and my heart goes out to everyone who feels as i do.
The sadness is unending and it is terrible at this time of year facing the day tomorrow without him.

I thank this space for helping me so far.

Hello Sarah

Yes this is an reassuring place to come to in this sad time

I’ve had the usual tears from kindness then a phone call after months of not being worth contacting by my husband’s family

Then my dear niece gave me a picture with me and my 3 sisters and my sister beside me a picture with just her husband :smiling_face_with_tear::smiling_face_with_tear:My lovely d in l - noticed

Just have to take it on the chin I suppose like a lot of stuff

A message from a work colleague of my husband’s saying how lonely I must feel and said they were thinking of me

So some people do understand

So to those alone in their room tonight perhaps for their first Christmas I’m sending virtual hugs as We tap into the silence and cope with our grief xx

Hi Sarah

I am so sorry for your loss. Its Christmas night here in Western Australia, i didnt do Christmas today my husband also died of cancer, he passed away in April this year. This is a hard time of year especially when everyone is talking about their family Xmas and all you want to do is just get through the day. I chose to spend the day on my own and just potted around the house and kept myself busy. One things for sure the day wil pass be kind to yourself try to cook yourself something you like to eat, a little treat perhaps and maybe a glass of wine to relax with or settle in with a good book. It doesnt replace what you have lost but it does help you get through the day. My thoughts are with you and everyone else in the same boat just trying to cope with Christmas
