My grandad died a week ago tomorrow and I haven’t really cried much probably 3 times I’d say, and I’m not sure if that’s normal because I’m a very emotional person. I’m just wondering if how I’m feeling is normal as this is the first time a close family member of mine had passed away and I felt grief but I’m not sure what grief is meant to feel like.
I’m sorry to hear about your grandad, @Kaydie1999. Your loss is very recent so please be gentle with yourself, however you’re feeling right now is okay. You might find our article about common thoughts and feelings in grief comforting to read:
Keep reaching out and take care,

I’m sorry about your Grandad Kaydie,
Grief is a very personal journey and people respond in very different ways. It is a very recent bereavement like Seaneen has said so there’s probably a whirlwind of thoughts going on your head and possibly an element of shock?
But to be honest - i don’t think there’s a specific thing grief is supposed to feel like. Some people have very strong outward reactions and some people have calmer more contemplative reactions.
All feelings and thoughts and reactions are genuine and don’t feel like you need to act or show a certain way. Just take it one step at a time and be kind to yourself.
As someone who has also recently lost my grandad, once again I’m sorry for your loss.
