Grief Poetry

Hi everyone I write a lot of poetry and wanted to share some that relate to grief. Some may relate to this:

Grief

Grief is sitting with your coat still on

Even though you’ve been home for at least an hour

Sore nose

Sore lips

And sore cheeks

A banging headache

And salty tears slipping away

Onto your cats head

Because he knows your sad

He can sense these things

So he crawled onto your lap

Grief is

Staring at a wall

With a feeling in your throat

That catches a quiver

Of a breath

Shaking but

You’re not cold

Or hot

Or anything

Cause you’re just there

Physically

But

Mentally

Unaware

You have no idea how long you will be like this

Maybe hours

Days

Months

Years.

Maybe forever…

Numb

Nothing feels real

Numb beyond words

A headache that’s lasted days

The tears come in waves

Fine for 15 minutes

But then my eyes fill up &

Expose my lies

Of stating I am fine

& okay

I’m on repeat

You’ll hear the same few lines

Stating my minds

Surprise surprise

I can hardly speak

Don’t really know

How I’ll be in a few minutes

Let alone

The rest of the week

Yes that is especially hard. Sending love x

This poem is beautiful and has helped me to understand how my beautiful wife would want us to carry on

She is Gone

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

That is a beautiful poem. And definitely shows how people experience grief differently!!

It’s shows that there is light that’s shines through darkness

I know that she would definitely want us to remember her fondly and often and to remember happier times!

Here’s a one liner extract from a poem which explains my thoughts and emotions far more eloquently than I could possibly do

To live in hearts we leave behind Is not to die.
