My son in law to be died suddenly just on Monday from what’s believed to have been an underlying heart condition that he didn’t know existed. He was only 26. My daughter Chloe who is 25 is utterly devastated as we all are but obviously her loss is unimaginable and we are struggling as to how to help her cope. She only started her new job in November although they were lovely when I called to tell them, I’m worried about her losing her job, I’m struggling with my own grief as Alex was always with us for the past seven years. I know it’s only five days but I’m having panic attacks about everything. Practically Alex’s mother has been dealing with all the arrangements and she is including Chloe in most of the decisions. This is a nightmare that I can’t wake up from.
Hello @ClareWade,
Thank you for bravely reaching out. I’m so sorry to hear about Alex.
When it comes to something as tough as grief, it can be hard to know what to say or do that might help someone you love. Our Grief Kind campaign has lots of resources that can help. You can:
- Watch our Grief Kind classes. Our Grief Kind classes are five short video tutorials in which Sue Ryder bereavement experts talk you through what grief is like and how you can support others who are grieving
- Listen to our Grief Kind podcasts. Our Grief Kind podcasts are hosted by author, journalist and Sue Ryder ambassador, Clover Stroud. She speaks with celebrities about their personal experiences of bereavement and the support which helped them most when coping with their grief.
- Read our guide on supporting someone else who has been bereaved.
I hope that you find these resources helpful. Please take good care of yourself, too - the community is here for you.
