How do I live on?

Hi everyone. It’s been a long time since I posted last. My husband passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 13th December 2024. It was a complete shock. It’s now coming up to his 2 year passing. Did I really think it would get easier?

Mick passed away in our living room. I found it a comfort being at home, just the 3 of us - Mick, me and our wonderful cat, Rusty. As time went on it became impossible for me to live there, as I could see him lying on the floor. I have now moved to Ashford, Kent, to be closer to our daughter, which took me a long time to come to that decision. But here I am, 03.52 in the morning wide awake and feeling very lonely.

I have family and friends here. In fact, since Mick passed, my family have been wonderful. And my friends. But I miss Mick so much. How have I lived 2 years without him :broken_heart:

My friend whom I’ve known for 52 years has just lost her husband, funeral is Friday. I need to be there, but it will be tough. We’ve always been together since we were 16.

Sorry to be a pain. I’m just feeling so very sad this evening/morning.

So sorry for your loss. My Jackie also passed at home in our living room, she was using as a bedroom in March 2025.

I couldn’t go into the living room for a long time or even stand being in the house, so I moved in May 2026.

It’s still difficult living without Jackie, but I have to, just as you have to, so take care.

Sorry for your loss
I lost my husband suddenly September 2025. I understand the shock that a sudden death brings.
My husband died while we were on holiday
At the moment I haven’t decided whether to move are not .
I do understand why people move and in time I might be one of them.
I hope you settle in to our new home.
You will always have your memories with you .
I sometimes wonder how I have got this far
My husband and I were married for 36 years
I hope the day gets better for you .

Dear Maria

I am so sorry for your loss and how loneliness hits in the early hours and once awake our minds work overtime.

I understand how you need to attend your friends husbands funeral.

After my Vic passed March 2025 I told myself I couldn’t go to a funeral ever again (even though we didn’t have one, Vic chose Pure Cremation) I just couldn’t face the grief. But in November 2025 one of my closest friends son passed suddenly he was only 37. I was determined to go to support my friend in her grief as she had been there for me every step of mine. It was such a hard day as it was also the first time I had seen some people since my loss. When people came up to me asking questions I simply answered I’m here for Dean not me. It took away some of the attention I didn’t wish for. At the crematorium I could cry openly with people around as we all were but of course it was a mixture of tears for Dean but also mainly for my loss.

I haven’t moved but I don’t think of my house as a home anymore. Just a roof over my head.

Remember @Maria25I you are stronger than you think.

Take care and look after yourself :hugs:

Hi Maria, I m 13 months after my partner’s sudden death and I still struggle. I understand why you had to move, as I will probably move once the estate is settled.

This was our forever house and my partner loved it so I m feeling guilty even contemplating moving. That said. It’s too big for one person and the heating bills are ridiculous. I’m struggling with the garden and there’s been lots of maintenance issues now. The grief seems to be never ending, just when you’re feeling a little better something triggers it and you’re fending off another wave.. Take care.
