How do you cope with the loneliness

So it’s been a week since I lost my partner. I worked during the week as much as anything to keep busy.

This is my first weekend without her and the loneliness is excruciating.

I’m very much the loner and do not have friends. My partner was my friend.

I come from a small family that doesn’t get on with each other. I will admit I distanced myself from them some time ago. They know what has happened and I did try calling them. The silence has been deafening. I’m not surprised, I’d be more surprised had they called back.

So desperate to talk to someone about anything I’ve just driven to tesco and bought something I didn’t need so I can chat to the checkout assistant.

I’ve tried to get out and do things today. But everything feels weirdly hollow.

I will be glad to go to work on Monday.

Hello @Twoflower I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, I lost my husband of 27 years 14 weeks ago tomorrow after his 15 month battle with cancer.

We are still very much at the beginning of our bereavement but you are very much so. I’m no expert, but I think as well as communication, you could would very much benefit from signposting to support and/or community based groups that help through this difficult and alienating time. Have you thought about calling the Samaritans? As well as listening and being able to signpost, they are also there for non judgemental conversations :slightly_smiling_face:

Although not face to face, everyone here on this site is here to support each other; there are different threads covering different topics within grief, bereavement and how it affects us.

Take care of yourself

Hi Twoflower, I am sorry to hear about your partner. What CaS said about phoning Samaritans is a good idea and much easier than driving to the shops to talk for a couple of seconds.
I found doing exercise a good way of channelling the pain I was feeling out on myself. I would also walk for many hours which helped tire the body and help cope with the feeling of desperation.
Wishing you all the best
Tom

It’s incredibly tough, I know. It reminds me of my family in my country, not a big interest anymore. This is a great place to find a comfort, understanding and support. Such a pity that I didn’t find it in the beginning. Your comment about Tesco made me smile. I used to go there while living in Europe. Everything is different and complicated in USA. I live alone in a foreign country and being without my most beloved husband is a real nightmare. Keeping busy helped me and still helps, so I can stay mentally sane. I’m trying to find some joy in things that I like. Some things I’m not able to do yet, listening to our music, playing the piano, watching our videos… still incredibly painful… We are all here for you… You’re never alone… This forum is a blessing…

Totally understand. Also a loner. I have a few friends but none of them will replace the man I lost. Anyone I talk to these days is a blessing, so yes, cashiers. I hope time heals ys both
