How does one come to terms with grief

I recently lost my adult son to pancreatic cancer. It was a total shock as he died 3 weeks from diagnosis and we did not know he was terminally ill.
I find the heartbreak overwhelming. I feel at a loss without him and am also grieving the loss of a life without him living down the road. We are left with so many unanswered questions as to why we were not told sooner it was terminal and why were we not made aware that end of life was imminent.
I guess we will never understand?
