How to deal with my grief

Hi, I lost my mom on my 12th birthday and then had to be adopted by my own father along with my brother. We left the home that we lived in because of the memories. We we’re then declared homeless and moved between my grandparents that didn’t live close to each other……my dad then turned to drugs because of losing my mom so we was left short of money. My grandmother then became our second mom and guided me and my brothers. She was our world and she passed 4 years ago due to lung cancer…….she gave us everything and guided us since we lost our mom. I just cant get over her death and missing her is really affecting me and my mental health that ive had to go on medication for. The other day I had to handle her ashes for the first time and I had to do it on my own. I haven’t been myself for the last few days…..I need guidance on how to kind of deal with my grief

Hello @Ellie2906

I’m part of the Online Community team and I can see that you are new to the community - I’d like to thank you for bravely starting this thread and sharing how you are feeling. I’m so sorry to hear about your mum and your grandmother. Most community members have sadly experienced the death of a loved one and so will understand some of what you are going through.

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support. In the meantime, you may wish to look at these Sue Ryder resources, which might be helpful.

  • Our Grief Guide self-help platform which has information, resources and advice to help you through your grief

  • Our Bereavement Information pages which can walk you through what you are going through.

You might also want to find out more information from The Mix, as they support young people and offer an online forum and also telephone counselling.

I really hope you find the community helpful and a good source of support and I also hope you feel you can access more support should you need it.

Thank you again for sharing – please keep reaching out and know that you are not alone.

Take care,

Naoise

Dear ellie2906

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my parents and brother in the last 6 years but I had my husband to help me through it. My circumstances weren’t what you have been through and I’m sorry for what you have been through. I lost my husband 3 months ago and it’s the worst thing I have had to go through in my life and I’m still going through, we never get over the pain I we have to find a way to live with it, i just wish I new how, I’m hoping someone on here has some similar experience with what your feeling to help you. The only thing i can say is just take 1 hour and 1 day at a time and let the tears fall because to hold them in can lead to such a build up it floors you. This site does do 6 sessions of free counselling you could try that. I have just started counselling myself, but just take all the help that is offered god bless jean:people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging:
