On another thread people had been saying how they had met their partners.
I thought it would be nice to write on a new thread how we all met ours. So I’ll start:
It all began on the 8 February 2003. I was at work and my mobile phone rang so I retrieved it out of my bag and answered it. The person on the other end said “can I speak to……”I said I think you have the wrong number we hung up. Two seconds later it rang again, same conversation. Then a third time. I then got grumpy and said “Listen I’ve told you repeatedly you have the wrong number so stop calling”. Thankfully no more calls.
Now usually once I got home from work I would switch off my mobile as I had a landline so if my family/friends wanted me they would call that, after all it was 2003 landlines were still used a lot. Anyway for some reason I didn’t switch it off. I had just eaten my tea when my phone rang, I could see it was that same number that had rung three times that day, so I answered full barrels blazing “Look are you stupid or something this is not your friend you obviously are dialling a wrong number”. The guy on the other end said “Yes I know I got hold of my friend in the end and when I told him about you and that I thought you sounded nice he said call you to let you know”. Well I was so flabbergasted I didn’t say anything. He continued speaking then I finally began talking back. We continued talking and talking. Hours passed. This is how we began, having never had met never even knowing the other had existed until that day.
Now I’m not the most trusting of people, been hurt too many times to remember so after about three hours I asked Vic if he had a landline. He said he was staying with his parents so that’s why he was using his mobile. I started thinking oh here we go he’s married and that’s why he’s using his mobile. I told him this so he gave me his parent’s number. While he was still talking to me on the mobile I rang landline to landline. His mum answered it and I asked for Vic. She said to me my son’s talking on his mobile but I’ll see if he’s available. I heard her call him and say “There’s a lady on the phone for you”. He laughed at me and said now do you believe me?
We talked every day for a week then Vic made the trip to visit me. I chose a pub in town and it was like we had known each other forever. Vic didn’t drive so he took two buses to get to me. He was working shifts so would come to me whenever he could.
After a month I said okay I’ll travel to see you and meet your parents(sadly mine had already passed). I was so nervous. Vic said nothing to worry about they will love you and hopefully you them. He was right we hit it off straight away.
Everything felt so right for us we got engaged that October. Vic moved in but I said he had to find a job here before we got married. I was still being cautious I guess. Anyway he got a job straight away.
Now like a lot of families sadly we both had people that didn’t get on etc so we decided to get married on our own abroad.
That week we had watched Oceans Eleven and I had loved the Ballagio hotel with the fountains. Vic said let’s get married there. So the next day we went to Thomas Cook and booked a wedding package. They said we had to be in Las Vegas a few days before the wedding to register with our documents etc and gave us a few dates for our wedding. One of the dates was Monday 19 September 2005 at noon. Vic said yes let’s go for that I like the sound of getting married at high noon and it will make Mondays better. All I can say it was all perfect the weather was in the 100’s but ok as everywhere indoors had air con.
So you see I do believe in fate if Vic hadn’t of misdialled by one digit we would never have met. We spent the next 22 years together making memories that will be with me until my last breath.
Yes today is my wedding anniversary, 21 years. Yes I’m sad that we are not celebrating it together but I have my memories and no one can take those away from me.
