Hi there, I haven’t seen the other thread but it’s a great idea to talk about how we met our partners.
George and I worked together in the same NHS hospital unit, he was an anaesthetist and I a nurse in ICU. We began seeing each other in 1987 after I invited him over for coffee. I thought nothing ventured nothing gained. I didn’t expect us to last as he was planning returning to Cyprus. After three years he moved to Poole which was a 400 mile trip for us. Somehow we endured and he returned to Scotland and we stayed together for almost 40 years until he died suddenly last year. It’s his 1st anniversary next week.
We should have got married but there was always something in the way. Both of us had periods of illness and then I looked after my mother when she was ill. I had thought about us moving to Cyprus but I didn’t want to leave my mum as she was getting old and we both had good jobs. We often had a volatile relationship as we were both very strong willed but we always resolved our differences. I couldn’t have asked for a better man as he could be very kind and generous of spirit too. George was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the late nineties and although he kept his blood sugars stable and did all the right things, it contributed to his sudden death.
I loved him, and still love him deeply. I am lost without him, and I consider it an honour he let me into his life.
Noreen.
