I hope that the following words bring you comfort.

The Life That I Have :

The life that I have

Is all that I have

And the life that I have

Is yours

The love that I have

Of the life that I have

Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have

A rest I shall have

Yet death will be but a pause

For the peace of my years

In the long green grass

Will be yours and yours and yours.

Dear MaryL,

What a beautiful poem, thank you so much for sharing it. For me, it is a powerful reminder that love is stronger than death.

Best wishes,

Irene

Thank you from me too. I have been thinking it would be nice to have a thread with poems that bring comfort so good to see this. The following was read last week at a funeral I was at and have thought about it several times since as liked it a lot.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me – not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,”
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

And that is dying…

Henry Van Dyke.

We had this poem at mum’s funeral

She is gone

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I also really like this one, it bring me a little comfort:

Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us everyday
Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed, and very dear

Loved this poam remembered the film Carve Her Name With Pride Thanks for sharing it

The sun didn’t come up this morning,
Cold rain and dark clouds are all I can see,
The sun went away with you my darling
When you were taken away from me.
