I’m an only child from a single parent family.
I didn’t live with my mum since I was about 7 as (after an awfully traumatic life) she wanted essentially to live her life. I don’t know if it’s an only child thing but I have always been worried about her (almost like I was the parent). Even though she would have crazy friends and a crazy life her motto was ‘you know me, I’ll be sound’.
I lost her today to what seems the most regular way, cancer. It’s been 6 weeks from her choosing to go to A+E and every stage has been terrible.
My mum was like my other half, my best friend and the person who made me laugh the most.
I’m lost. She was only 62 (but seemed 40). I think I’m a weird person as I don’t want commiserations from friends and family as we were such sidekicks, it’s only her I want to talk to.

I’m so sorry that your Mom died. I know how sad that is for a person. I was an only child also and lost my Mom when she had just turned 60 from Pulmonary Emphysema. I felt lost like you do. I remember riding home from the hospital after Mom died and the window in the cab was stuck open on a cold November night in Washington State. Isn’t it odd what you remember from such tramatic events? However, I do know that my Mom is now up in Heaven with God and Jesus and all the angels and we’ll be together eventually in God’s time as you will be with your Mom also. It’s just hard being alone when you were always together. I took care of my Mom for 10 years until she died. Right before she went into the hospital she told me that, “I’m going home tonight but not our home.” She also told me six times not to marry Sonny before she died. I wasn’t going to marry Sonny. We were just friends. However 3 years later, I met the love of my life who I was married to for 30 years until he died in 2024. We have to go through these sad times, but God is there for us. Just talk to him like he was your best friend and he is! God will always be there for you. I hope things get better for you.
