I miss my mum

Early yesterday I heard of the passing of my mum. My dad found her in our downstairs bathroom. I am so very upset, I am only 18 and don’t know how I will go on without her, for the rest of my long life. She had her troubles but she was everything to me, it feels like my whole world has come crashing down and I feel completely empty and detached. I just want to spend one last day with her, and tell her how much I love her and how upset we would all be if she past. I hope that her last moments were filled with peace that she is finally free from her mental illness, not regret, or loneliness. The pain just gets stronger the more time passes, it feels as if I am forgetting her voice and mannerisms, and our memories together. I am so heartbroken. I wish I could help you get better mum.

Hello @imissmymum,

Thank you for reaching out. I’m so sorry to hear about your mum. You’re not alone. I’m not sure if you’ve seen our Loss as a young adult category yet. But there you can connect with other members who experienced the loss of their mum and who will understand some of what you’re going through.

  • You might also want to check out Let’s Talk About Loss. They run peer-led groups for 18 - 35 year olds. You can find your local group on their website:

I’m sure someone will be along to share their thoughts, but I just wanted to share these resources with you and let you know that you’ve been heard.

Take care,
Alex

Hello imissmymam

I want to send my condolences to you on the very recent passing away of your beautiful mam.

It is so recent that your grief is bound to raw and you are left lost and heartbroken. To lose a mam at any age, i am 60 and my beloved mam passed away 21 weeks ago, after we had been together in the same house for 60 years meant that my world collapsed too on that day. My grief after 21 weeks is as raw as ever. I cry every day.

What i want to say is that you are so young to lose your mam. You will be heartbroken and sad and lots of other emotions too. Crying is a good release and it helps and is better than holding it in.

It might feel now that you will forget things as you say, such as memories or your mum’s voice. You won’t. They will always be there and come back to you when the time is right. Your mam will always be with you in those moments and your heart too and I know you will cherish them.

There are other threads on here too that you can access. I know that my reply won’t ease your grief, but be certain that I send you my support and kindest regards. It is a phrase people say, but take each day at a time. Keep a focus on yourself and your dad too.

God bless and sending you all my best wishes Stephen
