Hi @tykey
Now I get it , they regularly train guide dog puppies in my local town. sometimes you see them in the supermarkets. It doesn’t matter how cute they look you aren’t allowed to approach them as they are working. It’s a brilliant thing you are doing.
Training the puppies is a very onerous thing to take on, I’m certainly too old to do that. There’s lots of puppy playtime to have in return.
This is a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing.
Hello Helen, just wanted to see how your day was going ? I thought it’d be easier asking you than going through all the morning posts.
hope everything is working out for you. Take care and God bless you ![]()
Morning Lucy
Thank you for asking. My offer on the bungalow has been accepted and I’ve spoken to the solicitor who said six to eight weeks until completion (fingers crossed)
Not such good results from my CT scan, I have a goiter pressing on my windpipe. I await a referral to the hospital. From what I’ve seen hopefully it will just be medication to shrink it.
Hope you have a pleasant day x
Hi Helen, oh my goodness, what is that?? Never heard of that before, I hope thats all you need, medication. Glad to hear about your bungalow.
…are you in any pain or discomfort.?? I hope its not too bad. I’ll be praying for you my dear Helen. GOD BLESS YOU
I’m fine thanks Lucy. I didn’t know I had it, they found it on a routine scan. It does explain the problems I’ve had swallowing. I’m afraid I’ve put down the weight loss and swallowing down to grief. Hopefully I’ll speak to a doctor soon x
That’s wonderful tykey. It was very moving and gives me hope that I can move on too.
I thought I might mention again, how “taking that first step” can (probably WILL) open up new opportunities we could never anticipate. I hate traditional funerals, and so did Penny but I organized a party in a local pub. 40 people turned up, and told stories. I even sang her favourite song, even though at that time I believed I couldnt sing, but Penny had asked I play it! My best mate wrote a song for her and played it on his guitar, he titled it “Lady Penelope”. I subsequently learnt to play the flute, and my guitarist pal, my flute teacher (on piano) and yours truly ( on my flute) are working on playing it as a trio. Never in a million years could I have predicted that would happen. It all started with that positive answer to my own question (shall I play the flute?).
So please take that risk by trying new things, you never ever know where that new path will take you, be prepared to fail then find another path. It makes new friends, makes our lives more fulfilling, and gives us our pride back, those we have lost will be proud of us as well.
Good luck all.
PS I feel the urge coming on for doing something new. Suggestions please![]()
Here’s one for the darker nights Tykey, genealogy. My dad never knew his family so I got him to do a DNA test. It was fascinating, I corresponded with people (and still do) from all over the world.
I love your posts, always so positive, thank you x
Thanks Helen, you have reminded that my sister did this, but its in a rough format. I shall work on getting into a tidy format and produce a framed version. You are right that you never know what might turn up. Stanley, who said “Dr Livingstone, I presume?” He’s in there. Great idea. Thankyou.
If anyone thought of suggesting going up in a glider, please dont. Tried that, and it very easily goes into the failure category. The only bit I enjoyed was the landing!!
Morning @tykey
Your a true inspiration
Hope your day goes well for you
Hi Folks, as you probably know I have chosen to celebrate , rather than fear, anniversaries. Why would I not want to be happy at our wonderful memories? They were part of who we were
. It wasn’t easy the first time or two I celebrated, but as time goes on, I look forward to the occasions. For a future celebration, I remembered one romantic balmy evening we spent in the old part of Bruge, just wandering, hand in hand (as you do!). We crossed over a canal on a little bridge, and a man played his guitar. I remember it very clearly, he was playing this song! I never forgot and decided to play that same song on my flute, and to do it somewhere special to us both. I’m not sure if I’ll make it back to Bruge, but somewhere. It might take some time, maybe next year, but I’ve made a great start at learning it. ( I wont be wearing a dress though!!
).
Enjoy it!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brvTTgRP6gg.
PS I just wondered what the words to the song were, so I googled it, and they are very strangely apt:
She was beautiful, beautiful to my eyes
From the moment I saw her the sun filled the sky
It was oh so beautiful, beautiful just to hold
In my dreams she was springtime, winter was cold
How could I tell her what I so clearly could see
How I longed to be near her, I’ll never be free
It was oh so beautiful knowing now that she cared
I will always remember those moments we shared
Now it’s all over still the feelings they linger on
For my dreams keep returning now that she’s gone
For she was beautiful, beautiful, beautiful to be loved
Tykey…….I’m going to get a piano keyboard! That’s my “ learn a new thing” challenge.
Hi @Bonnie3 . That’s brilliant news, well done! Have you played it before? I had one lesson, and teacher showed me how to play chords with my left hand and tootle away with my right hand, trying to invent my own tune. That’s enough for me![]()
. Just enjoy the journey
George is coming on Sunday, for 10 days. He’s a working Guide Dog for his holidays. I always look forward to him coming, he’s wonderful company, gentle, kind, and amusing. Who could resist this face?
Hi Tykey, I had lessons when I was around ten but never took any exams. Online, a few weeks ago, I watched someone playing an utterly beautiful piece of music. I thought, “ I can do that!” That’s how it all started. It might take me a long time but I’m determined to try. I haven’t got the keyboard yet buy just thinking about it takes my mind away from the sadness and to a better place. All the best to you.
Yes, its great to have a piece of music you would love to play for your partner, something you never thought possible. Mine was Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez (Orange Juice, from Brassed Off!). Its taken two years, but I can now do it!!
Make yourself proud!
Morning @tykey
George looks a handsome boy
I am sure you and your other dogs will enjoy your time with him
