insomnia

always suffered with it but since death of wife 2 months ago sleep is nearly non existent, I don’t usually get more than 1 or 2 hours but mostly none, I’ve tried over the years everything but now its real bad, any tips I’ve had zopiclone in the past but only could get it for a week but I desperately need some sleep,I expected to not sleep much after her death but none most nights is killing me, don’t want to be drugged up,I suppose a lot of us are in the same boat

Have you tried magnesium? I find it helps me, I also read when I go to bed it helps relax and tires me. On top everything else grief brings, lack of sleep is awful. I am 3yrs on and my life is now fulfilled but I still don’t sleep how I used to, I get 6 hrs in total in 2 hour stints. I long for a straight 6 hrs so l sympathise with you

I can only give you my experience, I have been on zoplicone for over 20yrs, after my accident I was prescribed them,I have no side effects other than a bit of brain fog first thing, even after my wife’s death I still have 7/8 hours restful sleep every night, my cognition is still pretty much intact, good luck to you.

Hi @spike1 , I’m a fully paid up member of the 3am club, and have been for 4 years, and I’m fed up with it. I recently contacted my GP and asked for some pills. He declined as the policy doesn’t support it, because all the medications are addictive. But what he did do is enrol me onto this course, it costs the best part of £300 but the nhs will pay for it if they refer us. I’ve only just enrolled, so I don’t know enough about it, but I’m optimistic. https://www.sleepstation.org.uk/. Hope it might help you.

thank you I’ll have a look, my gp might I think give me zopiclone ,I’ve had it before but they only gives you a 7 days course,I’d need a 365 day course, tell me how you get on xxx

Hi @spike1

I generally go to bed between 12am -1am, drop off about 3am, wake up, back off at 5am, wake at 7am and get up at 9am and never sleep during the day. These times are an improvement on what they were in the first year of my husband’s passing but the magnesium is amazing and occasionally if I have a really bad time I take herbal Nytol, just feel a bit foggy the next day. Good luck, meditation and spa music helps too

I will do, Spike. Immediately after my wife died, my own GP would only give me a 7 day supply as well, no more. @Ditom64 has just reminded me I have a bottle of Magnesium Bisglycinate, but forgotten, I’ll try them now.

Boots do a one a night tablet called sleep ease or sleep aid. Super drug also do one too and they are without prescription. They may be worth a try in desperate times. I have for many years struggled to sleep and they have helped me on occasions.

thank you are there any side effects,do they contain I think its called vallerium or something like that

It’s called Valerian. I tried it, but never had any real success.

it never worked for me made me feel groggy

Hi again @spike1 . I’ve been experimenting! Like many of us, Ive suffered from intrusive thoughts from the past for a long while. I’d just had enough and had to do something about it. I finished up in a small group of troubled people searching for peace, we were studying Mindfulness with a lovely coach. It’s worked extremely well for me, and my waking life changed and I’m far happier. I mentioned my insomnia to my coach that whilst I’ve made huge progress for when I’m awake, during sleep, my subconcious brain doesn’t remember all this and starts regurgitating all these thoughts I control very well when I’m awake. So I wake up, and there they are!!! She sent me a short meditation to calm everything down, telling me to calm down a bit, and listen to it. She told me a truism, in that as soon as I stop stressing about not sleeping, sleep comes!! It’s early days, but I’ve used it three times, and within 5 minutes I’ve gone back to sleep every time.. If you remember, Ive just joined Sleepstation and I suspect this sort of thing is included in that, but my train might have departed a bit early. I shall see.
