I lost my Dad in May.. lm struggling.. he lived in USA… I flew out to see him and he died whilst l was there. He had cancer and it took him fast… l lost my my years ago . But l had him… I do have my own family.. but l feel lost, alone and left behind… I have no siblings
I’m so sorry for your loss x
I am also an only child. I lost my dad when I was 27, and lost my mam in June of this year. It really did hit me that I had no parents when my mam passed, and even though I’m 59, it’s like it pulled the rug out from under my life. I am still struggling, and after caring for my mam for many years and living with her as well, I feel so lost because my routine is also gone. My whole life involved caring for her the last 3 years and I never went further than 30 minutes away from home for maybe 2 hours at a time. I find it hard to explain to people how I’m feeling, but it is so unsettling and like life will never be the same for me … ever.
I totally understand how you feel. My Mum passed when l was 36.. my best friend… my dad remarried and emigrated.. long story so time passed where we didn’t get on.. but l went to visit and enjoyed time with him.. but now l have neither of them l feel totally lost.. the pain of mum has resurfaced.. I want to share stuff with my dad.. my mum never saw my daughter grow up.. my heart and grief feels like a physical pain… my husband tries to understand but he’s not a clue.. says lve changed which l have and says l need to look at what l have not what l dt have.. but that’s easier said than done.. thanks for replying
Some people don’t understand or can’t relate. I have a sister in law like that. We lost my mam and my husband’s mam 3 weeks apart so there was no way I was in a state to go to her funeral and the wake afterwards. My husband had no problem with that, knowing how close my mam and I were. I couldn’t speak without crying and was a mess at the time. His sister said I needed to get my s#$t together, show some respect and get to the funeral. Even his mam said she isn’t very caring, and she is so right. Losing your parents does change you and I’ve heard many other people say the same.
I’m sorry for your loss, that’s a lot to deal with. I lost dad nearly 18 months ago and I feel the same X
I think speak to someone professional, but they can never bring any loved 1 back.. they live on through us…
But l would give up everything l have to spend 1 minute with them both…
It is difficult. I lost my mum 13 years ago, we were extremely close and it was so hard. I lost my dad nearly a month ago , after he battled cancer for 3 years. I too have no siblings and no partner. My dad was my go to regarding anything, so I completely understand.
Im in my 40s and even though I’m getting older myself everyone around me has either both or one parent and siblings.
Hi… amd l guess you feel alone ? I’m 51 and l feel almost left behind by my mum and dad .. feel like a kid again…
I long for my weekly face time from my dad.. I flew all those miles to spend his last hours with him.. I’m used to Dad not being here yet. Its all so final… and l feel lost… and vulnerable.. I’m questioning a lot .. my happiness.. my mortality …
I recognise the aloneness I too lost my mum 18mths ago and my world feels empty , people getting on with thier lives and I’m just stuck in a hole . Thought time would help but it doesn’t, feels almost we worse now .
Sorry for your loss, it’s difficult losing both parents while still young. I lost my dad when I was 16 and my mum when I was 47, but I had my partner beside me for support but he died last year. As I’ve aged I’ve lost other family members, namely cousins who stayed with us when we were young.
Lean on your family for support if you can. I’m afraid grief sticks around for a long time but hopefully as the months pass you’ll find some peace.
Hi I lost my dad 6 weeks ago. He died suddenly-heart failure I wasn’t there. I’m totally heartbroken. He was my world
