Losing my mum

I lost my mum on 27th February after a short battle with cancer and dementia. I miss her so much and can’t believe I’m never going to be able to talk to her again. I constantly feel sick thinking that. I feel guilty because I promised my dad , when he died 18 years ago, that I’d look after her and I don’t feel I did a good enough job as she had to go into a nursing home in her final months. Her funeral is next week I can’t bear thinking about it.

Hello @Meltop ,

I can see that you’re new to the community, so I wanted to say that I am so sorry for the loss of your mum that brings you here.

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support, but I wanted to share a few Sue Ryder resources with you that may help right now.

Thank you again for sharing – please keep reaching out and know that you are not alone.

Take care,
Alex

Hi @Meltop
Please don’t think you didn’t do a good job with your lovely mum, the fact that she went into a nursing home only suggests that you did the best for her where she could be looked after properly with specialist support. My dad went into a home for the last 5 years of his life and it took so much pressure off my mam. I lost my mam in January so I’m a bit further on in this awful journey through grief, but what I have learned so far is that guilt is a massive part of it. Take a day at a time and try not to be hard on yourself. Keep posting, you’ll see your not alone
Sending you strength and a hug
Take care

I’m so sorry for your losses. When I lost my dad I tried to be strong for my mum but now I’ve lost my mum I don’t feel that I have that strength any more. I know I have to try but it’s hard. X

I was the same when I lost my dad 7 years ago, all the attention went on mam, which was when our ever so close bond grew, it’s definitely made grieving worse :broken_heart:
