Losing parents younger than expected

I’m 32 years old. I lost my dad very unexpectedly less than 10 years ago. It was traumatic and took years to deal with. Just as I felt I was starting to enjoy life again, my mom got diagnosed with cancer this year and died within 4 months of diagnosis. They were both so young (57 and 62) and I feel so overwhelmingly sad all of the time. I miss my mom so much and she deserved to enjoy the next part of her life. I feel like I’ve been robbed of the next 25 years of her. I also wonder if my life will just be filled with loss now. My whole adult life seems tainted with grief. I am heartbroken that I haven’t even started my family yet, it’s been a difficult journey to conceive and now I will have to step into
Motherhood without my own mom. That makes me so sad.

Hello @Lydia90,

I can see that you’re new to the community - I hope you find it to be a support to you, but I’m sorry for the loss of your parents that brings you here.

Sadly, you are not alone in losing your parents at such a young age. Here are some recent posts from members who share similar experiences. You might find their posts comforting to read.

Hopefully someone will be along to offer their support, but I just wanted you to know that you have been heard.

Take care,
Seaneen

It is undoubtedly very sad to have suffered the loss of your parents when you are still relatively young. You will obviously feel the grief of their physical absence throughout your life. It’s brutal but the only thing you can do is to carry on making your parents proud of the person you are. Hopefully you have other family members and friends who can offer support. Focusing on the positive memories and trying to live a happy life is really all you can do as you move forward. Yet it’s a very difficult process so give yourself time to come to terms with your situation. Best wishes xx
