Loss of a loved one

I lost my mum very suddenly in 1997 the pain and grief never goes away we just learn to manage it . At Christmas time I miss her so much and wish she could be here . I’ve recently become a grandparent for the first time so her loss is more acute . My mum was only young aged 53 . I’ve now reached the age of her passing

Hello @Yorkshirepudding53,

I’m really sorry to hear about your mum. It’s totally understandable that becoming a grandmother would make her loss feel more acute than ever. You’re not alone - many of our members have lost their mums and are finding Christmas tough, too.

If you’re struggling to cope with the sadness, anger or any other emotion brought up during this time, we’re here to help. You can visit our coping with grief at Christmas guide at Coping with grief at Christmas | Sue Ryder

I’m sure someone will be along to offer their support but I just wanted to let you know that you’ve been heard.

Take care

Hi,

The same for me. My dad died suddenly in 1998 aged 53. I also turned 53 this year - its a strange feeling as i still feel way too young to die. I cant believe my dad was only this age.

I lost my mum 5 years ago too aged 74 - its always hard but xmas makes it even more so.

Im sure becoming a grandparent will bring such joy.
