Loss of sister

Grief and bereavement is not a stranger to me but the loss of my sister is a whole other battle. My sister was murdered by her ex husband in a public parking lot while she was on her lunch break. She lived 4 hours away from where my family and I lived and we weren’t sure we were going to make it in time to say goodbye. I was in shock for days but honestly the worst part is when the shock is over and reality sinks in. It’s been almost a year since she has passed and I still find myself getting triggered by the most simplistic things. I grew up thinking I would have the rest of my life to spend with my built in best friend but that got taken from me. I feel alone as my partner has never experienced grief and my family has so much drama. I feel I have nobody to talk to who can relate or even remotely understand the grief I am experiencing. Not only did I loose my sister but a month later my soul dog had to be put down and 6 months later I found my grandma passed away in her bedroom, and this was just in 2025 alone. Like I said grief isn’t new to me but I can’t seem to get passed the denial of losing my sister.

Hello @Pmcc_12,

Thank you for sharing this with the community. I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister in such traumatic circumstances. It also sounds like you’ve been feeling alone in your grief, which can make everything feel even more difficult to cope with.

It’s really common for people who have experienced violent or sudden losses to still feel triggered by simple things and to feel like it still isn’t real, no matter how long it’s been since their loss.
