Lost both Dad and Mum within 5 months

My first post here, thanks for reading.

Dad became unwell at the beginning of this year, admitted to hospital at the beginning of March. While waiting for discharge home he became suddenly unwell and died within 4 days - on the 30th March 2026. It was a shock and I was very angry about it, it hurt deeply and I’ve cried a lot. We weren’t given the opportunity to be with him when he died although we were with him for hours every day at the hospital prior to his death.

Mum meanwhile became unwell and was palliated, she died at the beginning of September at our local hospice, while my sister and I were with her - she was cared for beautifully and died how she wanted. I’ve cried very little and got on with organising the second funeral in 5 months, as well as all the admin stuff which goes with losing both parents.

The last few months have been an emotional whirlwind. Anger and shock, pain, hurt, exhaustion, grief. And now just numbness and incredulity at losing both parents in the space of 5 months. While I’m a grown woman with adult kids, how can I manage without my wonderful parents?

There’s so many thoughts, emotions, questions and stuff whirling through my head. I know it’s normal but haven’t got a clue how to try and even start unravelling it all and getting my head round it.

So, hence my post here to people who might feel the same and understand how I might be feeling and offer some tips and advice?

Thanks in advance

Hello @TwinkleMitchell,

I’m Harriet, and I just wanted to reach out and say how truly sorry I am that you’re going through so much. It’s completely understandable that the last few months have been an emotional whirlwind, and that you’re feeling so much anger, shock and exhaustion. Losing one parent is devastating enough, but to lose both in the space of five months must feel incredibly painful and overwhelming.

Many people in our community have faced more than one bereavement, and while every experience is unique, there can be comfort in hearing from others who understand the exhaustion that can come with grieving more than one person. You might find it helpful to read through some of their posts here.

This community is here for you - whether you want to talk, ask questions, or simply be heard. You are not alone.

Take good care :blue_heart:
