Hi there, I have bern a carer for my husband then my dad & most recently my mum. I felt I was privileged to be able to care for them but losing my mum 3 months ago has sent me over the edge. I know they are all free from pain now but I feel like I don’t want to be here any more. I see my GP every 2 weeks & am on medication but nothing helps. I cant sleep at night which makes my headaches worse. I’m on the list for counselling but desperately need help now.
Dear Ataloss
I’m sorry you’ve been through so much, caring and losing your close family. I cared for both my parents too, losing dad then losing my husband just 6 months later.
Do you have a bereavement group nearby? I have been to one a few times and they have a councellor there you can speak too. I believe Sue Ryder also does councelling. You could message admin to see if this can be arranged.
I have found this wonderful group of people amazing. They have kept me sane this last 12 months. I come here to ask questions, moan or just chat along with a conversation (look for the post how’s your day going today) everyone here understands and will always be along to say how they have coped.
I hope you keep posting, talking really does help. I also searched old posts for answers to things that were bothering me.
Sending you a big hug, Helen x
Hi Helen, I’m so sorry to hear everything you are going through. It’s good that you have found this group helps you, I hope it helps me also. I find the waiting for help the hardest as this is the first time I have been on my own & the nights seem to be the worst.
Thank you for your message to me. I hope today will be good for you x
Dear Ataloss I am so sorry to hear about your family. It must be so hard for you after looking after them all and finding yourself alone now. My wife died on Christmas day after two years of cancer treatments and I find myself alone too. It’s so hard when you have spent a life full of life to be left with this emptiness.
I hope you find some solace here where everyone understands the pain of a bereavement. The Sue Ryder site offers counselling which I hope you can find useful. Thinking of you and sending hugs

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m so sorry gor the loss of your wife especially at Christmas when most people are celebrating, it must have been so hard for you.
I didnt think this site would help me much but reading what others have been through & continue to go through has really opened my eyes. It’s so easy to have a down day & let it get to you but having the support of others experiencing similar feelings means a lot.
People i know say things like I understand your pain or their in a better place or my favourite is everyone dies. They don’t get & in a way I’m glad they don’t get it as i wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on anyone.
IBye for now.
